Does anyone here work at Ford or have access to car history report? - Taurus Car Club of America : Ford Taurus Forum

Some of you may have seen my other thread about buying a 2011 Lincoln MKZ. The car is priced reasonably and only has 15,000 miles. The car is now located in Canada but had been sold new in the United States.

I'm told by the non-Ford dealership that the car is accident free. I can't find out much about the history of this car and where it originated from in the States. I ran the VIN with my local Ford dealership but they only had warranty info.

While it does sound like a decent car..... I'm a bit nervous about buying something without knowing it's full history. I've heard stories of US cars being shipped up north with salvage titles and some that were in floods.

Would anybody be willing to look up the vehicle's history from a Ford dealership or some other means?. I'm curious as to where it originated from exactly and how many owners it's had.

Why not ask the dealership to provide you with a carfax report?

I work at a ford dealership, but all i can get is build records...not car fax or any other history, sorry. Give me last 8 of vin and i can check open recalls and build records

I'm pretty sure even if they have maintenance records they can't legally give you them without your name on the title... I would ask for the carfax!

It stinks if you can't actually see the car in person. Remember if it is too good of a deal, then it is probably too good to be true. Be careful. If it's just a good deal, but not too good then go for it, it is probably fine. It's nice to be able to test drive the actual car first though.

From my experience with Ford, they do not do CarFax, Ford motor company has their own car check they use.
I think it is called AutoCheck.

AutoCheck and CarFax are their own entity.

You will need to purchase an account for use to run the report.

The thing the Ford dealer can do is an OASIS report, documenting any warranty work the car had done on it.

I would go CarFax.

Ford Motor Company does not use any particular one. They are in the business of New Cars and Parts

Now when a Ford dealer is selling a Certified Used FoMoCo product, they may use AutoCheck or CarFax depending on the dealer.

Both of these history reporting services have their pluses and minuses. I can show you each type for my fleet and they all report different things.
