The Ford dealers in my area use the Motorcraft 5w-20, semi synthetic.
For $29 bucks I can't mess around doing it myself.

Canadian Tire has their store brand full synthetic on sale half price. $18 something for 5L, I'm gonna pick up a jug or two and try some synthetic for the next oil change. That's pretty cheap for Canada.

Hopefully I won't get any sudden leaks.

Mark, do you know if they will do 5w-30 if you ask them for the same price? I guess I should just call and ask. I know you can get the motorcraft semi-synthetic in 5w-30. However I have yet to find it in a 5qt jug. It's a waste of money in 1qt for $5.50 a qt. Valvoline full synthetic costs the same as motorcraft semi-synthetic.

Unfortunately I heard about this AFTER I started using full synthetic. Sprouted a leak, oh well. I think it's from the rear bank cam covers since I can smell it burning off. Sometimes the smell is worse. For old cars (that don't have a history of small oil returns or sludge problems), semi-synthetic is the way to go. However for cars like my dad's minivan that have massive sludge problems, I wouldn't dare put full synthetic in. As soon as I did, it would start knocking and the oil pickups and returns would get clogged up from all the sludge being washed away after 145k miles of bulidup!

I have put Valvoline full synthetic 5w-20 in my car the past several oil changes, and I was short on cash and at autozone where oil is super expensive and grabbed a 5qt jug of the motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend. My oil was below the minimum line, so I had to throw some in. I want 5w-30 to slow the leak down while I try and find and fix it.

Not trying to highjack the thread or anything, but does anyone have any recommendations for an oil filter when I try this synthetic stuff? I hear you can run synthetic longer than regular oil, so I want to do that.

The $12 Bosch ones. Anything expensive really... The motorcraft S model filters work fine.
