Everynow and then I come across a dealer w/ some neat marketing ideas:

http://www.antwerpencatonsvillehyundai.com...t.asp?newuse d=0

But buy a new 2010 Sonata or 2009 Sante Fe and get a 2010 Elantra for $1 ?!?!?

What is the catch? Ever seen deals like this? Can't beat a 10 year / 100k mile warranty. Volume dealer just moving inventory?

The drawback is that you would own two Hyundais, and only the exceptionally stupid (and ugly) would ever own two Hyundais...

LMAO! I think I know where that was directed........ Just seems like a good deal, buy the Sonata, get the Elantra for $1, and then sell the Elentra for even 1/2 of what it is worth, and you got a new Sonata for a pretty good price.

A few years ago I heard that Mercedes dealers were giving a lesser Mercedes if a customer purchased a Maybach......

Didn't Ford do this with the "Buy an F150, get a Ford Focus for $1"
If I remember correctly it was last year.

F150 get Focus for free

Thats the only way they can sell all those cars, offer them for $1. A couple years ago, a friend wanted me to go with them for a Kia deal that was the same thing, buy one, get one for $1.
THE CATCH:
You will pay 100% list price on a fully LOADED sonata (every imaginable option even if you never heard of it before), no discounts, no rebates, no deals of any kind, you even pay tax on the full list price. You do get the second car, the elantra, for $1.00, but you end up paying taxes on the full list price of the $1.00 car also, since the state wants their cut also and they know the value of the car. You also pay full dealer, transportation and any other fee they can think of to toss in some extra cash for them.
If you watch sales, you can buy both cars seperatly for less than the buy one get one for $1 deal.

That deal is great in SC, when sales tax on a car is 5% of the sale, and no more than $300 (new or used)

Thanks for that explanation. That's what I might have figured.

Somehow I picture you and Paul from that scene in "Days of Thunder" where Tom Cruise and the other guy just get out of the hospital and go right back at it in the rental cars after they were told to take it easy for awhile....
