squeaky noise from passenger side for 2000 Taurus OHV

Hello all,

I saw the same issue as shown on this video for my car(2000 Ford Taurus OHV)

I need to replace the Serpentine Belt. What is the correct part number for this one?
Based on RockAuto, I found the part number MOTORCRAFT JK6861AC. But it is shown as Air Conditioning V-Belt.

Q1> Is this correct part for the Serpentine Belt?

Q2> I have never replaced the belt myself before. Is there anything I need to pay attention while replace the belt?

Thank you

Squeak could also be from the tensioner pulley, a bad bearing in the alternator, AC clutch bearing, etc. I would pick up a mechanics stethoscope from HF for under $5 and hunt for the source of the squeak.

Replacing the belt on a Vulcan is a 5 minute job.

Hello Jeff,

Thank you for your info.

The noise goes away after the car is started for 2-3 minutes, so I assume the issue is related to the belt. The current belt has been running for around 50K miles and it is time to replace anyway. I will check all the parts while when I replace the belt.

Thank you

Could be a weak tensioner and once the alternator load drops from car starting the belt stops squeaking.

I think 15mm on tensioner to loosen tension. Need anlong wrench or serpentine toool. Not much room. Make note of routing. Pull back fender splashing to put new one on around harmonic puller. Again not a whole lotta room but doable

I'd recommend the Continental Elite (formerly named Goodyear Gatorback) serpentine belt from Rockauto. #4060855 for $24.79. I realize it's twice the price of the Motorcraft, but silence is golden, lol.

Hello Automender12345,

Most of the time, the squeaking only happens the first time the car is started during the day.
For example, if I start&drive the car in the morning, I will hear the noise. Later, if I start&drive the car again, the noise doesn't happen.

I have ordered the part from RockAuto and will report back with my findings.

Thank you all!

Hello all,

Just replaced the Motorcraft belt and the noise comes back when the weather is cold. When the weather is warm, the noise doesn't show up at all. Even in cold weather, the noise is not constant on.

The next step for me is to replace the Belt Tensioner(MOTORCRAFT BT58) and the Idler Pulley(???).

For Idler Pulley, I am not able to find the MOTORCRAFT OEM part on rockauto(2000 FORD TAURUS 3.0L V6 OHV Parts | RockAuto).

Based on the part images, I am not sure which one is the direct fit to my taurus(2000 SE OHV).

Attached images are for ACDELCO 38001, Dorman 419-602 Idler Pulley and Gates 38001 Belt Drive Pulley respectively. It looks like the Dorman one comes with a smaller center hole than ACDELCO.

Question> Which one is the better after-market direct replacement for my Idler Pulley?

Thank you
