Hoi ya'lls!

When it comes to the P0442(small evan leak) and erasing the DTC code, unless it reappears post erasure it should be fixed? Asking as the evap MIL is still red on the code reader, but this appears to be a known issue(evap MIL always staying lit) with the 2001 Mercury Sable and a few other similar cars made by ford for around then.

I am not sure what "still red on the code reader" is referring to, but if you clear the code, which is fact clears any and all codes, both current and pending and resets all the IM monitors to the "not completed" state, the CEL should stay off and the EVAP monitor should complete if the leak was caused by a transient condition like a slightly loose gas cap, etc. Be aware the EVAP monitor only runs under certain specific conditions, so it will take a while for the EVAP monitor to complete, or for that matter it will take a while for the CEL to turn back on if the EVAP monitor fails.

Overnight resting before this:

Idle vehicle for 15 seconds. Drive at 64 Km/h (40 MPH) until ECT is at least (170 F). . = Engine Cooling Temp.

EVAP
Cruise at (45 to 65 MPH) for 10 minutes (avoid sharp turns and hills) Note, to initiate the monitor: Fuel must be between 15 and 85%. Means gas tank best ¼ to ¾ fill. Inlet air temp over 40F.
Executes the EVAP Monitor
