Exclamation 2003 Ford Taurus SES. Totaled?

Hello everyone. I got in a car accident on Friday and i am currently awaiting the verdict for my car. It was a head on crash at an angle and everyone walked away uninjured. (Thank god the Taurus is a tank). Well, it does roll freely, it runs, and the alignment seems to be ok (From what i could tell when being pushed to the side of the crash scene. However, the fenders and complete front end seem to be destroyed. I am no expert, so that is why im asking here.

The KBB value of the vehicle prior to the accident was around $5100. (It was a 2003 Ford Taurus SES with extras and the 3.0L Vulcan, 75,000 miles.)

Can anyone estimate from the pictures, whether or not i could possibly get the car back? I know the cost of repair needs to be around 80% of the payout (Which is around $4500-$5000.)

Assuming there is minimal internal damage, what do you think?

I would bet that any insurance company is going to total it. Remember that the insurance companies dont use the inflated KBB system. Their 'valuing system' always favors them.

As it looks visually, it's a whole new front clip, and paint which would be over $4k at shop prices and that's if there's nothing underneith that was damaged. It's unfortunate but they will probibly total it.

Yeah, It all depends on the frame. I'd be surprised, if it was a head-on collision, if there wasn't.

I had a near-head on in the F-250, but I ended up driving over the other car. Still bent the front axle, but luckily the u-bolts and axle housing took the brunt, and the frame was fine.

Blew a Pro-Comp shock as well.

Apart from that little issue, truck didn't have any cosmetic damage apart from paint on the bumper.

As for the other guy...well, he learned to look both ways before pulling out into the street. I hope.

That being said, even with no frame or body damage on my part, and the truck being worth a fair amount more than a typical '96 model, I think they came close to totaling it out. If they hadn't found a used axle in a nearby JY, I would have been toast. Having to replace the steering box didn't help either (force sheared the rod connecting it to the tie rods in half)

Still, you might as well wait for the insurance company. KBB values can be off as well-the official KBB value of my car is like $4400, but the bank's high book was $5300. Have hope!

If totaled with frame damage and you want to keep the car, you could buy it back, and take it to a body / frame shop and have them pull it straight. Then hit the JY for some fenders, hood, pass headlight, and bumper cover and bolt on the JY parts yourself. If you are lucky, you could find parts in the correct color.

It doesn't look *awful* but that's also assuming there's no internal damage. My car was a prior salvage (new front end components) but I'm not sure how severe it was so I can't guess...

Thanks for the input guys. I'd hate to see this thing go, my first car and it was a blast to drive. Hopefully progressive can get it back up and running, but if not, I'm already looking at an identical SES. They are willing to pay $5000 for the ACV.

First, Im glad everyones alright and walked away uninjured. Unfortunately, I have seen Bulls with far less damage in the yards. Your probably better of shopping for another bull.

I had a smilar looking crash 10 years ago. After I accepted the insurance payout the agent told me I could buy my car back for $350. (if I had the room I would have) The only stipulation was that they wanted it out of storage ASAP.
