1. Key-less entry stopped working all the sudden. Batteries have been replaced, still nothing.
2. Windshield Washer motor is not kicking on. Wipers work, reservoir full (no leaks) but no fluid is coming out. I was told that I may have blown a fuse. Not sure if the same fuse works both. I was trying to replace the lock on the driver side rear door a week or so prior and someone said that may have caused the blown fuse(s). 3. The last issue may be more serious. When I am sitting still, at a stop light, or in my driveway, the heater smells sweet....when I am moving..it is normal. I have checked the oil a couple times and there is no "foam" so I am not sure if it is a coolant leak or not....The blower motor makes an annoying whirring sound while on...and on one of the settings (one step down from highest)...it whistles along with the whir. 4. I drive an hour one way....sometimes....after the car has been running for a bit....and i shut it off, after the key is off and the car is quiet...I get this sound like a jet engine winding down. Doesn't happen often, maybe once or twice a week. Sorry for the download of problems. Any help is awesome! Thanks! |

2. Did you check the hose under the hood blanket? These are well known to crack with age.
3. Sweet smell is telltale sign of antifreeze/coolant. 4. HVAC turning off. I hear it too. Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App |

The keyless entry and washer fluid I cannot help with which fuse it would be. I don't have the wiring or listing for that year at home. As for the sweet smell, check for a coolant leak somewhere under the hood. When sitting at a light the air is being hauled into the heater from under the hood. When driving the air flow around the car doesn't let the smell build up. If it was a heater core issue you should have a sweet smell all the time.
The noise when shutting the car off is the cooling fans coming to a stop. Normal noise and every taurus does it. A/C runs in all HVAC positions except for VENT, FLOOR and OFF. All other positions turn on the A/C compressor, which in turns has to run the cooling fans.

It's just a silly design in my opinion. The duty cycle is low when its cold though. If the temp goes below 43f then the ad doesn't come on in any mode except max ac.

So the HVAC is normal...won't worry about that.
I don't think there is a leak in the washer system at all as i have not lost any fluid. After about a month, the fluid level is the exact same. If I had a leak, I would have a loss of fluid. This is why I was thinking perhaps I have a motor issue as the fluid isn't getting out of the reservoir. I will need to find the fuse and check that first. I will also try to find the fuse for the keyless entry. Does anyone happen to have access to a fuse diagram for the taurus that would tell me where and what fuse runs the motor and the keyless entry system? I will look around for a coolant leak. |

found the washer fluid issue....a hole in the line right where it is attached to the engine compartment by the left motor mount...gotta replace the line now...
still have the issue of the key-less remote not working. |

I am not that knowledgeable in this area.
Have you tried to reprogram all? |

I have not tried to reprogram it yet....it worked fine for a few weeks (right after i bought it)...then it just stopped working...I thought it was the batteries so I replaced them..turns out it wasn't the batteries.

The remote functions are all handled internally in the GEM. The only fuse that might be relevant is #16 (15A) under the dash.
Are you sure the battery wasn't installed backwards? Did you try more than one remote? If the remote is transmitting, then you probably have a failed receiver and will have to replace the GEM. |
