The stock cd changer should plug into the RCU. I'm not sure how to get at it on a wagon, but look for a cable going from the changer to the RCU.

ya the RCU is under the spare tire on the rear left of the car. Right by where I found the end of the pioneer cable. Obviously the Pioneer plug wont work with any part of the ford harness.. so I must be missing something that connects the RCU to the blue end of the Pioneer cable.... I guess I'll be pulling the rear end apart to check this out, but I must be missing some piece of hardware.. I'll report back with what I find.. but this wont happen until my next day off... tuesday

I am guessing the previous owner installed an entire aftermarket system and bypassed the stock RCU (connections under the spare tire).

He most likely put the CD changer cable from the aftermaket hu with the wiring from the headunit (in the dash) to the OEM wireing harness in the rear.

Do you see any other loose wires under the spare tire?

Nope, The RCU is in tact and has two factory harnesses plugged into it. it looks like theres room for a third harness, but I didnt see anything else under the spare. I'll have a good hard look on tuesday. Thanks so much for your responses!

Thats the same cable that plugged up to my CD changer in my 96 explorer, which was a pioneer. The pins look a slight bit different, same color though. I don't have the expo anymore but I want to say it plugged into the bottom of the changer.

I slightly remember it plugging into a small black box, then over to the changer. Memory is kind of fuzzy on that one.

That is what it connects into.

It will also go into the pioneer hd radio tuner, their Sirius tuner, and cd changers. As well as any other accessories.
