Have you checked your oil level? If its low try adding some oil first and report back. If you did run it out of oil you're pretty much screwed I'm sorry to say

^+1 Check the oil!!!
If the oil is low to nonexistent, then there's really nothing you can do. New engine time. |

Once that oil light comes on, you should stop and turn off the engine immediately!!

Look on the bright side, if there is one here...Taurus engines are less expensive to replace than they are to repair. Google for replacement Taurus engine, and you will find an inexpensive replacement. Better yet, find a local parts yard and do the job yourself.
I'm not even going to ask why you didn't hear problems before the idiot light lit up. An engine missing three quarts of oil rattles a lot under throttle... Last edited by Lgbpop; 01-01-2013 at 09:07 PM. |

b) how many miles ago was it? If you lost a lot of oil in a short time you must have a leak somewhere. |

I tell my two daughters that the oil light does not mean low oil, when you get a chance add oil. It means stop the engine. and coast to a stop. Since it was bone dry most likely you had plenty of oil you just did not recognize them. With that little warning the first stop light you accelerated from the oil light would have came on and go out. When I first bought my 1990 Sable used at 76K it used 2 quarts in 2k miles. The light come on accelerating from a red light and the went out. I babied it to a Kmart and added two and a half quarts. I drove it another 176K miles with no problems except a quart of oil every 1000 miles.

Is it a repeated clicking sound because it could mean a dead battery. I would think if it is a single click it is a frozen engine.
If you turn the key once to on does it sound like a machine gun or a single click. Also are you headlights bright. |
