Hello all,
I found crack in both battery terminal cables. Is there an easy fix without replacing the whole cable? Thank you |

No. Replace the entire cable. I suggest NOT using one of those $2.99 replacement cable ends where you strip back the insulation on the cable end, stick it in the new cable end and tighten the 2 screws to clamp the cable in. There are much more expensive cable end replacements that work well (car audio installation places often use them), but they may cost more than a new cable.

I would also suggest new cables of 4 or 0/1 gauge with regular solid metal clamps prefrerably gold plated with a cover. If you go to either Auto zone or O'reillys one of the kids will happily install it for you if they are not busy. Tip them generously tho. The factory cables barely get the job done. It doesn't take a genius when you look at your OEM 10 gauge battery charging cable from the fuse box to know that Ford was stingy. My main cables are all 0/1 gauge now.

I agree with Jeff. You want to avoid the two bolt clamps like this:

Behlinla here as serious as usual - Mr "Looks like it was greased up with some compound used for lubrication, didn't you know that petroleum jelly is great for... blah blah blah"I'm sorry guys I'm just pulling your legs! I actually value behlinla's very thorough explanations and wouldn't be here with out him! I also could't live without your hilarious comments sheila ![]() Sorry OP for acting immature. Seems like your question was answered though.
