Default Chime won't turn off when head lights are on, interior lights stuck too...

I have a 1993 Ford Taurus LX 3.8 litter. I can not get the interior lights to stay off, and that chime that sounds when a door is left over would not turn off for awhile. I know that the ignition cylinder had something to do with that so i went ahead and just removed the clip fully from the ignition well. That stopped it when I was driving but the door, above, and glove compartment lights still would not turn off. Now I have an issue were I can't turn my head lights on without the chime coming on.

I don't think i won't to disable the chime ding out right JUST YET, I would still like to remedy its malfunction but if not i will go ahead and take the "bell" out where ever it is..

I am pretty sure my door buttons that get pushed in when I shut them are not the issue for the chime or the light situation nor is the dimmer. What can I do short of taking out more lights? I do not want to have no light underneath the glove compartment or own the doors when i open them..

I know this isn't an original topic but none of the other threads seemed to help.

Sounds like a bad door switch or a broken wire coming from it. Most likely in the harness in the hinge area. You will have to get a wiring diagram and trace it out. It could be any door but I would suspect the drivers since it gets the most use.

I looked at the wiring diagram at the Autozone website. I now think you have a bad switch that is making contact (closed) all the time and not a bad wire. Though you may have a shorted wire. Try spraying your door mechanism heavily with WD40 and work it a few times. If that doesn't work you are going to have to check the circuit with a meter to see what is going on. I did not see the chime circuit but if you have a stuck switch or bad wire I am sure it would cause the chime also. I am sure someone else with have a little better info. Just trying to help.

Yes, fixing the door latch should correct both issues.

do i need to check the back doors too? and if i am not able to get it to work what else would me snipping the wire for the chime cause to not work? And I should spray the WD40 in side of the little box holding the wires?

The chime will only be activated if the driver's door is sensed to be open, so I would say your problem lies with the driver's door switch. It's possible you have another bad switch, but focus on the driver's door first.

Spray the plunger that gets pushed in and out when the door closes and push it in and out a bunch of times with your finger. If you still have problems, you might have to replace the switch. Also inspect the wiring going to it for any damage.

Push the plunger in after spraying and see if the dinging stops when you do (with the lights on or motor running).

If not could be the switch or wires are bad.
