Yeah, did you try the EATC self test to see if you have a sun load sensor code? Not sure if you can do that with your new radio faceplate. Did the auto lamps still work right after you did the radio swap?

For my problem, i'm pretty sure it's not the sensor problem. Because it shuts off when there is light. The auto light acts normally except the main headlight does not turn on. I'm guess it's the SJB. Does anyone know where it's located?

GEM is under the dash above the driver's footwell. Before you replace it check fuse #29 (15A) under there.

My problem is the same as pyxu619 - parking lights and dash lights turn on, but no headlights.

With mine I actually do get the 051 code. All my lights work when auto lamps are on but they dont shut off when it's light out so I'm betting it's the sunload sensor. I guess that link I posted is more or less for me than cause that doesn't sound like your issue.

Sam, do you have EATC or manual HVAC controls? If EATC, run the self test and see if any sunload sensor codes come up. If you have access to a GOOD scan tool that can read C, B and U codes in addition to P codes, look for any autolamp related B codes.
Bulbs: I have Phillips Xtreme Visions in my 05 SEL and 95 GL. They put out way more light than the stockers, but, as noted above, dont last anywhere near as long as "standard" bulbs.

GEM is under fuse box and directly plugged into it. The relays go into the GEM circuits for windows, door, lock, lights~~ Found a donor for $25, dealer was $544. Has circuit boards inside, not just a simple part. I have access to a Snap on Scan tool, that is the kind you need for electrical answers. Jeff is right on tracking down if possible before you through parts at it. The change out is a pain and if it is a bad ground or something wire related it would save time and $$$$. I found some Xtrava Visions at Wally world for 18.99 last week for my truck. They are good for the price. I like them on the country roads for night driving, has a good side to front spread on high and low. Good luck~~Happy New Year

Mine's doing the same thing. I'll start it up at night with the autolamp on - the lights come on - if I start driving, and - you can't determine when it's going to happen - the headlights will shut off leaving the parking and dash lights on.
Yet, something else to work on when I have nothing to do! hahaha
