Can I change 2005 ?Five Hundred CVT Fluid myself?

At 60,000mi. Need CVT fluid change on 2005 Five Hundred Limited with AWD. Am I able to do this in my drive on ramps? How much and what kind of trans fluid? Need to replace filter?

You may have more luck on the G5 Taurus forum. This is the maintenance forum for G4 and older car, completely different cars except for the Duratec 3.0 engine shared between G4 and 500.

Yes, you can change it yourself. Ford is getting more sensible these days and put a drain plug on the pan. If you want to change the filter, you will have to drop the pan.

As far as fluid, you need to use Motorcraft Continuously Variable Chain Type Fluid. You can get this from a dealer or order it online. I doubt you will be able to find it in stores. It's going to cost $10/qt or more. Capacity is 10 quarts. So with the filter it will probably cost you about $170 to change yourself.

Ended up just taking to dealer and paid $360. Most tranny shop's didn't seem to know anything about the CVT. My fear was that they would use wrong fluid and fry it, or take it apart and not know how to put back together. That fluid is $9 a quart or more.
