Won't turn over

2001 Ford Taurus, regular engine, automatic. Had to run home, shut the car off, came back 5 minutes later, now it wont turn over, battery good, just a short whining noise when I turn the key. Fan, radio all works, just wont turn
Where do I start?

Thanks

45 minutes later it starts just fine, so I did an experiment, started it, ran it for a few minutes, turned it off, tried to restart it, again no turn over, still think it's the starter? I will try to start it in about 20 minutes again.

Does it sound like this:

This ended up being a low battery, so you might try jump starting it.

Starter might be getting hot, or possibly there might be a dead spot in the flexplate, providing the battery is good.

Once you get it started, run it by a parts store for a free elec. load test.
