Default Driver's side inside water leak

My 2000 Taurus has a water leak on the inside drivers side. It's not coolant. It seems to be from the rain..the rain that never ends..the rain that hides the sun for weeks. You know the rain. The water is dripping from the hood release handle. I've done searches and I have found a few threads claiming the leak was from the parking brake cable grommet at the firewall below the main electrical harness. I park the car normally facing downhill in my driveway, Has anyone else had success solving this particular water leak? In the past I have removed the cowl and cleaned the drains.! drain was clogged.I don't want to rip off the cowl again ,in the rain, without having a good chance of solving this.

What I've read has said to remove the cowl & inner drivers fender to get at it.That;'s not a bad job in the summer but this time if year I think it would be torture since my garage is occupied by my motorcycle and it's too small anyway.

My 03 leaked from a small area behind the wire bundle next to the top of the parking brake.

Found it using a garden hose to check for the leak.

A bit of silicon in that area solved the problem.

Yep-- Sister in law 97 GL has same issue: When it rains she says water appears on the floor pan drivers side. I havent checked it out but agree it likely sounds like a cowling origination. I see nothing wrong with the windshield or door frame.

There is a problem with the cowlings I had to buy what's they called a rain hat from the dealer to stop it. If your doing it yourself buy some sealent (like for aquariums because it's water resistant) and seal it up (we didn't and it still leaked the sealent cleared it right up) It wasn't really hard to do it just had to wait for the sealent to set I forget their technical name for the part, but I was told it can mess things up in the firewall (heaters, fuse panals, ect.) If let go for a long period of time.

I think this leak is only on the passenger side , where the cabin filter is located but thanks for you input.

"next to the top of the parking brake" Is this from the inside or outside of the cowl?

Mine was on the passenger side, on an 04 but was told they make them for both sides, they may fit on your car too

Nothing to do with the cowl.
I got at mine by taking off the inside kick panel by the parking brake.
There was a small area where 2 metal panels met that wasn't sealed properly that caused the leak.

I never heard of a leak on the drivers side caused by the front cowl panel.

Thank you for all the great input. Today I went out and pulled the inner fender on the drivers side front to check for a leak at the hood release cable at the cowl. The whole area was dry and no indication of past leaks. Of course I still have the leak.

I also pulled the upper cowl . There are several screws attaching the cowl to the metal. I sealed those thinking that water got in thru there and running down to the drivers side. The next thing I intend to do ,weather permitting, is to get under the dash with a mirror and see if I can trace any water. As far as the kick panel I don't think water can get from there to the hood release lever but I will check it.

I'm going on the assumption the leak is on the drivers side but it could be elsewhere and be trickling down. This is our 4th Taurus and they still can't get it right.I may dump it in the spring and replace it with another MB. I took off the piece under the steering wheel and poked around with a lite & mirror but nothing jumped out. The only thing I did notice was water at the edge of the dash above the parking brake lever. There is no other moisture /water along the edge. With the car parked nose down I find it hard to believe the leak is from the cowl.
