Default How do you tell a Duratec from a Vulcan?

I have a girlfriend with a 2005 Taurus SE. It has the 3 Litre (182 cid) OHV-V6 engine. The VIN number shows the engine is a "U". The vehicle has engine problems and I want to know which engine it has before I start posting about the problems. How do I know if it is the Duratec or Vulcan. I don't see any info on the engine etc. ?

I believe the term, "OHV" automatically makes it a Vulcan, as opposed to the Duratec's "DOHC". I don't know anything about ID'ing with PINs, but OHV= Vulcan, DOHC= Duratec.

O.K. --guys-- thanks for the info. I'll be posting some info -in several days- about the problems she is having and I believe the problems are going to involve an O2 sensor. It is my understanding that the two different engines use slightly different exhaust systems and the O2 sensors are in different locations.

I a parallel note: My Duratec has even a label on the engine that says "Duratec 3.0L 24V". Don't know if 2005 has that anymore.

Added pic of '03. Says so on this one on the water pump shroud.

Also, spark plugs in center of valve covers.

If all else fails, read the vin.
