Default obd codes 304 and 442

I have a 2000 Taurus with a 3.0 litre v6. I have 2 codes. One is a p0304 #4 plug misfire and the other is p0442 evap system small leak. I'm not sure if they are related. Does anyone know of common causes. The misfire if it is not evap related I'm just gonna guess it is a bad coil plug or boot.

The 2 codes are very likely unrelated. Which 3.0 V6 do you have? The Vulcan has a coil pack and plug wires, while the Duratec is COP. For the missfire code, how many miles since the last plug / plug wire change (assuming you have a Vulcan)? Does the coil pack have any cracks, especially on the bottom?

For the 442, most common cause is a bad gas cap seal.

I don't know if it is a vulcan. Each plug has it's own coil I believe. I just recently bought the car used so I don't know too much about the history on maintenance. I'm going to switch the coil with another and see if a new code fire off, cause to my eye it does'nt look bad but could be internal. I looked at the gas cap and it did look pretty gnarly, an excellant suggestion.

If each cylinder has its own coil, and the engine looks like a PITA to work on, you have the 24 valve DOHC Duratec. You will also have "24 V / DOHC" fender badges.

Look for cracks in the gas cap gasket where it seals to the filler neck. If there are any cracks, even very small ones, replace the gas cap.
