Default special tool for disconnecting trans fluid lines from radiator?

Hi folks,

Replacing the radiator in dad's 2000 taurus se (3.0L vulcan). It started spewing coolant from the reservoir...we have changed the reservoir, heater core and t stat before due to the "red death" issue with the vulcans...so I think the rad may be the culprit since the water pump seems to be fine.

Reading the hayes manual it says there is a special tool for the trans cooler lines at the radiator....is there such a special tool? Looks like a regular box-end wrench will do. IF someone can confirm the size it would be greatly appreciated...just ballparking by eye looks to be a 20mm

Thanks folks!

caifansc:
Yeah, don't be taking a wrench to this radiator. You'll need a 3/8 quick disconnect tool to remove the transmission lines. This tool wraps around the transmission lines. You push-in on the tool which in turn spreads the nylon clamp, then pull on the transmission line to remove it from the radiator. Once the line is removed you'll see how this system works. Do the same thing when installing the new radiator but you'll be pushing into the radiator.

The quick disconnect tool can be used for A/C and fuel lines. The tool can be found at most auto parts retailers. See link below for an image.

Since you will probably only use it once, the 5 dollar set from Harbor freight works fine.
