Angry Can't remove fuel pump from tank...ugh...

Alright...I'm replacing the fuel pump in my gf's 2001 Taurus. I have it on jack stands and have the tank out. The lock ring came off with no issues but the pump assembly will not budge. I have read on here to twist it counter clock wise and it will come out but I've had no such luck. I've even tried the brass punch to punch it but it still won't budge! Is there something I'm missing? Thanks for your help!

Funny thing i just took it apart yesterday, after i took the retaining clip off, there should be an arrow on the white part, i used a screwdriver and gently popped that tab up with a little effort counter clockwise, then around the edges i put the screwdriver and the rest popped right out, It was to the right and above the electrical connection going in the tank on the White assembly lid.

I saw the arrow and I tried prying it up a little with a screw driver but it seemed like it was going to break the plastic. Mine has two tabs that stick out on top that seem they are there for twisting it but it won't move. I appreciate your help!

I just did one too on a 2000 and couldn't get the main body to turn without fear of breaking it. I eventually just used a couple large flat head screwdrivers to gently pry it up and that worked without breaking or cracking the plastic. I only replaced the pump and when I was putting it back together I tried to pop it in the correct way and give it a little twist but it still wouldn't do it. It formed a tight seal on the new o-ring and the locking ring holds it down so I wasn't worried about it leaking. I'm more worried about the rusty tank getting a pin hole air leak in it......

I'm in the process of replacing the whole assembly so i wont have to worry about anything down the road there.... but also because i cracked a piece off the top white part because i hit it with a screwdriver and hammer, the issue i see myself running into is getting the retaining clip back onto place..when the assembly arrives we'll see how thing go..Kess how are things going?
