When I turn on the AC I get hot air only from the dash vents, the compressor works fine and AC lines under the hood get cold but only hot air comes from the dash, How do I fix this?

Probably a bad blend door actuator.

I second that... Try moving your temperature dial from hot to cold and back again and see if anything changes... If you hear a clicking sound coming from below the dash about the middle it's definately the blend door.. You should be able to actually see the motor arm moving from underneath your dash behind the ash tray. You may want to pull the ash tray out to get a better line of site...

Is the blend door actuator and the blend door the same thing and do I need to pull the dash to fix the problem? Also there is no obstruction in the air flow when I turn the fan on.

The blend door mixes hot and cold air. The actuator is a small motor that moves the door into different positions to allow blending of hot and cold air. There is no obstruction because the blend door doesn't block the air flow to the vents. When the actuator fails, it usually fails in the hot position so you can still defrost the windows.

We started the car and turned on the AC the acuator moves as we turned the ac on and off and when we changed the temp does this mean the blend door is bad?

If it's moving it usually means it's good. Could you hear any sound as if the blender door was moving the lever inside? it will sound like a low muffled clicking/knocking sound.

I have a similar problem with my 96 Sable. The air works then cuts out and all I get is hot air. I will try using the temp control to see if it cures the problem. This is my first post here, hope I can find some archives on this subjectl Cheers, Chuck

Now I have some more info, the car is a 99' SE wagon w/DOHC V6 and the climet control system fully automated, we have no control over the tempurature at all it is just blowing hot air no matter what we set the temp too. Also the accuators are all vaccumm operated there is one just behind the ash tray and another at the top behind the radio that we cannot get to they are both canister types. So, is the blend door still the problem and if so where is it located?
