1999 Taurus - Power seat goes up/down, tilt and lumbar just fine. Forward and back, not so much. The motor works, but just makes a, "clunk, clunk, clunk" sound. The gear and track seem to be intact. Any ideas whats broken and is it fixable short of replacing the whole motor?
Going to be cheaper to grab the motor from the junkyard. My motor isn't very strong due to the previous owner being a big dude and his whole family sharing the car. IIRC, the 1996-7 Taurus seats have independent motors for each motion (like one small motor for back/forward). The 98+ have it all amassed so you can't replace one part of a component.
I usually end up grabbing the wheel and pulling myself forward while pushing the button if someone else has driven my car.

I agree, go with a used part, difficult to remove the motor/gearbox,
had same problem with my '99 wagon. would have to sit in
back seat and put my feet on the base of the seat and push
the driver seat forward once a week.
found one used on ebay with free shipping, it is heavy.
