For frame of reference, the entire system takes 12 to 14 quarts.

Ford Lincoln Mercury Sable? A personal conveyance named after its inventor, an
assassinated ruler, a character from Greco-Roman myth and a small furry mammal.

Most recent ATF change on 2002 AX4N drain and fill needed 9qts. 5.5 qts only foamed the ATF with slow jerky gear engagement.
Previous ATF changes needed 6-7 qt.
Your mileage may vary.

Recommended to use a flush machine. Otherwise you are only changing about half the fluid. Unless you want to do it several times. Partial fluid changes leave contaminates in the system and will dirty new fluid a lot quicker. Trans services will need to become more frequent to keep clean fluid in it. Worth the money to have a reputable shop do it
