Hi everybody,

I want to replace the GEM (generic electronic module) in my 2002 taurus duratec. Got a few questions: can I get one out of a junkyard vehicle? Does GEM store the milage? Is there any difference between different trims/years of the 4th gen taurus GEM (i.e. can I put a 03 Vulcan GEM in my 02 duratec)?

For the reference, my car has some issues with electricity. With the key off, something drains the battery. If the car is running, the lights flicks on and off and horn keeps sounding off. I'm suspecting a ground or something is messed up in the GEM.

Thanks!

Yiran

That post is a little confusing. One person says you must take the module to get programmed by the dealer. There are two serial numbers posted for the two types of GEM's used. Can someone confirm that the GEM module must be programmed by the dealer? I certainly don't want some stupid security feature to activate and lock down the car.

Thanks alot for the info Bull Geek.

Apparently there are two types of GEMs for 2000-3 cars. One for cars w/keyless entry and one for cars without keyless entry.

here's the part # for 02-03 w/keyless:2F1Z-14B205-HB
And the part # for no keyless entry 02-03: 2F1Z-14B205-GB
[/b]
So are these part #'s good for a 2001 model year Sable?

Heh, that's the website I got the part #s from (then reconfirmed with fastpartsnetwork). Since it only lists 02-3, Ford is saying only for those years. You can however be the first to test If I had a G4 I could test it on (that wasn't my daily driver), I would.
