I want to flush and fill my Taurus, so I looked up in my Chilton's book and it said 11.6 qts. That's almost 3 gallons!? That seems like quite a lot. Is this right?

yup its right.

4 quarts = 1 gallon

3.78 L = 1 gallon

Keep in mind, antifreeze is mixed 50/50.
