I failed my emissions test to renew my tags on my plates and they said it was because of the check engine light that was on. I took it to Autozone and they gave me this code "P1451" and said it was manufacturer controlled auxilary controllers. I got my fuel pump changed about 4 months ago and that check engine light has been on ever since. I just thought it needed to be reset, but when I took it to get it reset it came back on. Is this is simple problem to fix and most of all WHAT DOES IT MEAN? I looked it up online and it said :EVAP Control System Canister Vent Solenoid Circuit Malfunction. Soooo...what does that mean? Someone PLEASE HELP!

Deeply Frustrated,
SilverTaurus

There is a charcoal canister in the engine bay that has a valve on it. The charcoal filters the fumes and the valve vents the output to the atmosphere, the valve is bad. Prob need to replace the canister.

Do you know about how much this would cost for a 2001 Ford Taurus, and do I understand correctly that the valve is integrated into the carbon canister and not a seperate device?

to my knoledge its not seperate. I would check thee connector to it before replacing it.

If you need to replac it go to a junk yard and get one, it will save alot of $$

Thanks again for all your assistance. I told a family friend that has a garage what it was and he said he "thinks" he knows where it is. That is not very assuring to me, can you tell me where this canister is located so I can tell him exactly?

It's located under the trunk of the car body.

Thats the evap canister, but the valve is at the front of the car. Its under the hood on the passenger side firewall. Its a small round canister bout the size of a pop can (a little shorter) with a wire and a few vaccum lines going to the top. Its not easily visable unless you look for it.

Hello again...i hate to seem slow but I really need some more assistance, I know nothing about cars and am on a limited budgetm so I can't take it into the dealer or even the shop. Our family mechanic wanted to know which one I wanted to try and replace, the valve or the canister with the code Code P1451 Evap Control System Canister. So, should I just have him replace the valve or the canister?

Utterly Confused!
