Exciting news, guys! Here's a message from Jason8225...

Hello everyone,

Contrary to the e-mail I sent out a few days ago, an opportunity to have an event at Gingerman this Spring has come about.

The track is trying to fill spots and we have arrangements for an awesome deal. The track bug bit me and I couldn't pass up this opportunity.

I apologize for the last minute notice, but I was just contacted about this today.

We can have an event Saturday, May 9th with a 30 car minimum at $175/car. As usual, lunch would be included and you know that there is always a TON of track time at our events.

I don't have much time to get this e-mail out so it is very brief, but if you are interested please let me know. If you are an instructor, tech person or anyone else that has helped us in the past and would be able to help for an event on that date, please let me know.

We need commitments from everyone by next Friday, April 17th to make this happen.

This is an incredible deal for some very inexpensive track time, hopefully we can pull this off, please spread the word!

Thanks!

I think it'd be good to post the requirements for track day again... I think the rating on the helmet was SNELL-95 right? And maybe bring some extra pads/rotors?

Thanks for the email Jason! I will have to check to see if I can get my struts installed in that time (mine are original, from 1995!?!). I did cross post to TCCoA.

I might be in, but I'd like to know more about what specifically we're registering for; an open track day, where anyone can go out on the track, or one that's restricted to race-spec cars with cages, suspension/brake mods, etc. My SEL is currently a factory-stock sedan, and I don't have the chance before May to do so much as getting higher-performance tires (I only have the stock ContiTracs). Other than a SNELL helmet, what else would I need in order to take a stock Taurus to Gingerman?

Brian,

You've got everything you need to go on the track.

This is an "open track" day but it's more structured than it sounds.

There are specific run groups: novice, intermediate, advanced where drivers with similar abilities and cars are grouped to go out on-track at the same time.

There will be very few, if any, race-spec cars. Most of what will be there are moderately modified street cars - primarily in the suspension area.

For our events and per track regulations any DOT helmet is acceptable given the nature of our event - it is not a race.

I would recommend that you do bring a spare set of brake pads. If you can, before the track day, it would be best to get some performance friction pads or a similar pad. People have had good luck with Wagner ThermoQuiets on the track as well. The super-cheap store-brand parts store pads are primarily what you want to avoid. We've had many people completely toast those on the track. Other than that you should be good to go.
