I had to recreate another pass just to post this.
So in a nutshell:
1. The site gets breached and the passwords are stolen. The hackers have now my trow-away, 7 character, pass that I use on many forums. BooHoo, they will post in my name how to fix my Sable.
2. Lawyers get involved and ask ME to improve my password, regardless that this was NOT my fault. That will not "fix" anything in the forum security, because the fault was on the other end... Classical redirect.
3. Now I got those options:
- save the password in my browser and next time when I browse (by accident) on a malware site, that password will be exposed. I gain nothing, forum security is not better.
- use a strong password that I will remember, like the one I use for my bank. So next time when this forum is hacked, now I have to worry about my bank info too. In this scenario I am at loss.
- use another strong password that I will forget and keep asking for resets. That is a sure way to make me NOT return here. I probably am not alone in this so the forum loses advertising.

Will this be re-considered? I won't know anyway, unless I will try again in a couple of months again to post here and re-create the password.

There's also option 4, click remember me and stay logged in on the site indefinitely. Also, based on the password rules, Password1! is a valid password, the rules themselves look more complex reading them than using them. To that end, after the first year all of this will be revisited. Also this SITE was not breached, it was a third party server that took a large chunk of our network. Also your concerns about using the same password as your bank is exactly why we did this. People use Fluffy1 or whatever their main password is and use that everywhere. Was that you? No, was it some of the other people affected by this? I can tell you absolutely we've gotten reports of that yes. Again, this isn't the only thing we have done, there are ip locks on key areas of the site, there is two factor authentication for admins, there are rules in place that prevent smash attacks (if an ip tries and fails to get into accounts multiple times it gets banned) and a bunch that as I'm not a sysadmin I don't fully understand
