Somehow the requirement has been circumvented. Facebook sign in maybe?

Hi,

I think if members register with Facebook it does skip the required fields. I'll dig a little deeper into this to see if there is a way to prevent that from happening.

Most members seem to think it applies to everyone but themselves. A forum cattleprod would be nice to have ~

When the change was made to require the info at registration it unfortunately resulted in the info of preexisting members being lost. Adding insult to injury the ability to join directly through facebook not only circumvents the info requirement but eliminates at least 2 if not all of the reminders not to post repair questions in the Introduction Forum (sigh)

That explains a few things. FB makes things easier for the short-attention-span newbies, but mucks things up for the VB system...wonder how many of those members will stick around, long-term ~

It also has the unfortunate result of having many of them expecting instant gratification.

I think one way, which may end up being a lot more work on mods, is to have new members needing approval from mods before they can publicly post in all the sections. Alternatively we can make a notice that would show up to members that have maybe 0-15 posts kind of thing that would remind members to fill out their profile field if they registered with FB.

One of the 2 main points of an intro requirement was to prevent the types of delays new members would see if mod approval was required. If it can't be made a requirement during fb registration then a reminder to fill out vehicle info and a highly visible notification not to post repair questions in the Introduction Forum would obviously be the better of those 2 options
