Just check the brakes every time you rotate the tires (or have them rotated)!

From what I understand, Asbestos pads are the worst, ceramics are the middle, and semi-metallic are the high end. I like ceramic the best!

Barkentine, do the rear pistons on your 95 merely compress like the fronts or do they spin in like gen3s?

Sheila,

I rotated the piston (CW) until it stopped compressing, then used a large 'C' clamp to compress the rest of the way.

After installing the new pads, I rotated the calipers by hand to make sure nothing was in a bind.

Okay, what I removed were probably the basic asbestos, but I think even in those lower end pads they may use a few metal flakes. There was a lot of brake dust on the wheels, so they were the cheapies.

I took the '95 GL on a trip out of town yesterday and noticed the car has better braking/body balance on those winding country roads. I definitely will consider the ceramic pads again for future use.

I have the cheapies on mine right now. My front wheels are black..... Made that mistake. They are probably already half way through too, and only about 10k miles on them! Go figure!

Breeves, you must mean metallic pads.

And there are varying grades of brake pads: organic, metallic, semi-metallic, ceramic, etc. You should really do a google search on it and read up. There's loads of information out there about the different types, their pluses and minuses, and what situations they are ideal for. You can't say one is bad because of 1 persons results.

If you're hard on the brakes, and drive like Mario Andretti, ceramics are probably not going to be your preference because they won't have the same braking performance as a metallic pads. Metallics also create more dust than ceramic.

Glad to hear the Good Luck Brown Beater is still going Barkentine. You really lucked out with that car.

Thanks for the feedback on pads. The recent posts on this thread show I'm not up on brake technology. However, these ceramics do work for me and my driving style. The stopping power is improved.

IIRC, metallics work best when heated up.
