It does end happily. My son went to leave for work and the 99 Bull with 205K wouldn't start. Quick test of battery showed it was good so I figured starter since son said car started funny leaving school. Next day my sophomore son and I pull out starter to take to Autozone to test. Since I had replaced it about 7 years ago with lifetime warranty figured I walk out with new one in hand. The starter bench tested good. Reinstalled supposed good starter and no start. Took battery to Advance to load test, it was good. Pull out starter and it tested good at Advance. Son and I go to pick and pull and take starter from 99 Taurus and installed it, car started up and has been fine. Send Autozone email and get quick response and was told it would be forwarded to regional manager. Store Manager called yesterday, took starter in, he tested it and the thing barely turned. It took 10 days longer than it should have but have new starter if needed. Some here will bash Autozone but in 25 years I never been disappointed walking out of their store. NAPA, well I've left there store pissed off almost everytime. FYI, my 16 year old son can change a starter in a 99 Vulcan Bull in 10 minutes.
