Default SHO Spoilers....

Ok, we all know that spoilers are essentially worthless on a FWD car. Ford's engineers and design teams have to know this also.... so why would they put a spoiler on the SHO? It's essentially extra drag, granted it wouldn't be much, but why even put one on? I get the cosmetics thing, but then I was thinking about it more. The spoiler that is an option for other trim levels such as my SE was vastly different. Well basically much bigger. So did the spoilers on the gen 3's actually contribute anything from a performance perspective? Or is that sad looking tiny spoiler on the SHO just to make the car easier to distinguish?

Spoilers create down-force to keep the rear tires from losing traction. Front, rear, or all wheel drive will benefit from this.

The Gen 3 SLO spoilers were all cosmetic, the SHO however, was actually functional. It's crazy small shape was designed to do so...somehow.

But spoilers are usefull on any car, but only if you're driving extremely aggressive, like on a track. You wouldn't need a spoiler at all if you were always taking corners at 30mph or less.

Wheelie bars, now wheelie bars are useless on FWD/AWD vehicles. Yet somehow even those make it on a Honda Civic.

I think that aside from any marginal performance benefits, the SHO spoilers were different simply for the sake of differentiating between a SLO and a SHO sedan, meaning that because the SHO spoilers were specific only to the SHO, then it was really just for trim differentiation.

The 3rd gen SHO spoiler is both functional and cosmetic. The functional part has been proven in some older post.

Apparently you are new to the world of Google.

Yes, Ford spent hundred of thousands of dollars on engineering an odd looking spoiler to be non-functional. .

The SHO was functional.

My spoiler isn't worthless. It gets the CHMSL out of the rear window! And it provides a convenient way to lift the decklid!
