Sorry, but that's close to the most ridiculous article I've ever read. I can see buying a Lincoln (tons of electronics, bells, whistles to fall apart) like is stated in the article or something that has been sitting outside in the elements for years. But a nice low miler that's been maybe elderly owned and garage kept is desirable to anyone. My 2000 SE i bought with 56k is treating me great!

Think I'd stay away from that one too, as the milage is awfully low for a car of that age. Add in, you know nothing about the actual history of the car. I bought a similar low milage Sable from my father a few years back, but knew everything about it, including the day he took delivery of it new. I took top notch care of it, and sold it to a friend with 95K mi on it. His sister and law is still driving her kids to school in at 150K mi. Known actual history, is quite an important thing, as my old car has no sign's of giving up. Helps, that my buddy's brother, is a proffesional mechanic.

Well, I don't know about that. I would pay attention to what the article says. A car with 56K miles maybe a low mile car, but it does sound like it's been sitting in garage for long. He was writing about cars with truly low miles. Our neighbors have something like an 8 year old Chrysler 300C with about 10,000 miles on it. In my view, this car can't have a value higher than the same car with a miles count that looks that it was actually driven (this one was driven only first couple of years, then then maybe once a month) This one just sits in a garage. I wouldn't say that I wouldn't have touched this car with a 10 foot pole, but I would at least first investigate whether these cars have suffered from any major problems that could have been fixed under warranty or manufacturer recall (but obviously not on this car). And then there are things that age regardless of how much the car is driven. Struts and springs sag, gaskets start leaking, vacuum hoses rot, etc.

My Camaro
I've owned this since new. Changed fluids periodically, made sure the gas stays fresh, and drive it occasionally. It still has the original wiper blades on it! Given a choice between mine and one with 100K on it, mine wins hands down. It does depend on how it was cared for.

Well, greenwood Nebraska is the salvage pool (next to the racetrack).

The interesting thing is most vehicles over 10 years old in Nebraska
are exempt on reporting mileage on the title.

now, to buy a wrecked Taurus and drag it half way across the country is beyond me
