Both the Rosemist and Charcoal Gray were only offered on the SHO's in 1996. That Rosemist in the pic you speak of is mine, I believe, in front of my crabapple tree in my front yard. As for the count thing, my certificate from Ford says 58 total, but most V8 SHO folks (myself included) think that the 200 or so number is more accurate.

Thank you for your input zen. Now we know for sure that it's a rosemist.
Hmm...I noticed a line going across the car where a line normally isn't, on the panel down and to the right of the hood. Wonder what that could be...doesn't look like a keying incident. Last edited by Hero D'Aura; 12-25-2012 at 12:04 AM. |

Pinstripe. It was a dealer add on option. I've seen many 96's and 97's with them. My first 97 had them.

Thank you again zen, you seem very knowledgable about these SHOs.
Dave, I would love to see that particular punstripe option in-person...it sounds great! |

6 of those 7 SHO's are in my driveway with plates and insurance, so yeah, I guess I know a thing or two about them, and I've welded somewhere between 250 and 300 of the critters too, including the Rage SHO. I'd say the pinstripes were installed on less than 10% of the V8 SHO's I've seen. About as common as the cloth interior option. If I were bidding on that SHO, I'd offer $2750.00 and ask about proof of camwelding. I bet you could drive away with it for between $2750.00 and $3250.00, especially if there is no proof of it being welded. That is an instant $500- $700 hit on sales price because that is the first thing any educated V8 SHO owner will need to do.

Yeah, I did notice your sig, kind envious of the low-mileage Rosemist, haha.
Well I am now seriously considering purchasing this Taurus, and I sent them a message with many questions (no response yet, probably due to the holidays). I asked them if the cams were welded, if a mechanic could check it out, if there were any service records, mold, rust, etc. the drive would be two hours, so I would want to be well-informed about it before I checked it out. If they're completely unsure about the status of the cams, and I were to check it out, is there any visible evidence to indicate a welding job has been done? I was thinking that since it has 127k miles it most likely is welded...or just insanely lucky to be alive. *crosses fingers hoping that the former owner took care of this rare SHO* And what was the Rage SHO like in-person...? The most common way to check if the cams were welded is to take off the front valve cover and look at the cam sprockets. The problem with this is some unscrupulous folks welded only the front cams, so to be completely sure one has to remove the entire intake manifold and rear valve cover as well.
If they don't KNOW, if they aren't sure or don't have supporting paperwork (gave a lifetime written warranty, etc) then you must believe it hasn't been done. The Pac NW is kind of a black hole for camwelding - not many happened out that way so I'd bet the car is unwelded. Rage in person? A little beat up on the nose but still way special. I know Brandon is looking to sell it, and he wants a healthy price for it. Interior is in good shape, I fixed the exhaust, still has the Momo wheels in all those famous pictures. It's exciting to touch a piece of SHO history. I've got pix of the Rage and my Rosemist around here somewhere....

Well shoot, I really hope that the cams actually were welded...as a teen with only modest funds I can but don't really want to have to pay someone to weld the cams...still, it wouldn't be a bad idea to hire a 3rd-party mechanic to inspect the SHO overall, would it?
What's the price on the Rage? I don't expect that I would want to pay the price, but you never know... Heck I would like to even touch it though. I think that the centered exhaust system is the most attractive difference to the regular SHO. Looks good! Last edited by Hero D'Aura; 12-25-2012 at 06:20 PM. |

I've got 4 transmissions, 6 engines, enough wiring to put together 3 more cars. So I'm not afraid. You should be. My advice is please don't hurt yourself. Something very expensive will soon cross you plate if you buy this car and do not have a storage unit worth of parts sitting on the wayside.
