So for those tech savvy people out there (like me), or those not so tech savvy, I just had a few questions.
We all want a snap-on versus, but can't have one. I currently have a bluetooth module for my iPad 2 that gives me some live data and OBD-II code reading capabilities. I've heard the app "torque" on android is better and has more PID support than the apple one does. I have been thinking about buying a Nexus 7 tablet and using the bluetooth module and Torque on it along with this case (which would be great!: Nexus 7 case | Defender Series by OtterBox I would get the one with built in 4G so I can access my server from anywhere, etc. So all together with the case and bluetooth module I'm looking at spending no more than $400 after shipping and tax. Probably less. My other thought was I can go ahead and get a windows 8 touchscreen tablet. NOT an RT, but FULL windows 8. It would have to be able to switch into a tablet though. It would have to be rugged, or have a rugged case available for it. Battery life of minimum of 3 hours is a must. This way I could use Alldata on that computer. However if I wanted OBD-II diagnostics I would need a program like this: ScanXL Standard - Palmer Performance Engineering, Inc. along with the enhanced Ford diagnostics. This would also read ABS, Airbag, Transmission, and GEM codes (everything!). Going the windows 8 way would cost me probably just shy of $1000 if I get lucky. What are peoples thoughts? P.S. I hate Dell, but one of these seems nice: http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-12-l221...d=xps-12-l221x Anyone find anything like it for less?

Never ever ever buy a Dell. They used to be good. I vote the Nexus 7 package.

I never have and hate them. I just thought that xps 12 looked cool, but I've seen bad reviews.

I agree with 04 SEL, I would go with the Nexus 7 package because its almost half of the price, and from what I've read they are pretty good/reliable machines. And with the money you saved you can buy a rugged case like an otter box or get an external battery pack so you can use it longer. Hope this helps

The only thing that I like so much about having the laptop is that I can have access to abs codes, trans codes, gem codes, and air bag codes. Yes it costs more but that would be great.
Anyone have expirence with torque? Does it read abs codes and such? Sent from my iPhone using AutoGuide.com App

Stay away from Windows 8. It sucks.
As other have said, Dell has fallen and gone in the crapper. I have a Nexus 7. I love it. Its fast, smooth and reliable as anything. Also on the Nexus 7, you don't have any of the crapware found on other tablets. Mine is wifi only, but my coworker has the 4G one and it works very well. If you want a bigger screen, go Nexus 10. I also have a Nexus 10, but I am not allowed to touch it until Christmas.

I am a huge computer nerd to be honest, and I installed windows 8 when it was in pre-beta, beta, RC, and now the current release. It does suck, I agree. It is only nice if you have a touchscreen.
I have had a few android phones, and I always put custom OS software on it. The nexus 7 you don't have to do that, it's already vanilla like I like it. I wish it had 4G LTE. I have it in St. Louis, it's super fast on my iPhone 5. I don't need the bigger screen. The thing I'm really wondering about is like I said in my last post, can torque do that much more than dash command to be worth investing the money, or is it worth it to get the Scan XL system. I have a macbook air that runs windows as well, and I could just use the Scan XL with that, but I want a touchscreen. I don't think Scan XL will work with a windows 8 RT tablet or I would get that. It's about $140 for the system plus $90 for the ford add on. Can anyone tell me about their experience with torque?

Sounds like a great idea that will look really cool and perform even better. A custom permanent looking fiberglass fitting should be in order to look stock and "permanent" but I am sure you have watched the YouTube videos of expensive aftermarket shops doing these installations and considered this already. Also, Excellent choice on an Otterbox defender. You could toss that thing in the middle of a Black Friday crowd and after the brawl the device would still work. Best $70 you'll have spent.
