The LKQ Self Service place in Charleston, SC had 25% off (didn't know about that 'til I arrived). This yard had an abundance of floor shift Gen 4s, so I helped myself to one setup. For $25 Cables, brackets, nuts, bolts, etc!

Of course it looked like crap when I got it, absolutely filthy.

Partially put back together:

Pre-cleaning of shifter assembly:

Mocked up for right now, with a G3 leather shifter:

I also got the bracket that attaches under the console area. I have all the holes in my car, I believe. I'm not sure if I have the front 2 holes for the shifter assembly...I can't tell from the pics I took of when I gutted my interior. Anyone know?

What do you think...should I go for it?

Is the sensor on top of the transmission the same between column and floor shift cars? Same goes with how it all attaches to the transmission. I'd make sure the mechanics of it work before installing/de-installing various interior parts.

My vote: Dooooo it.

Sure, a floor shifter and center console is nice, it has a lot of advantages, but there is one time I wish I don't have one. And sure, this may sound silly, but when you have a hot attractive girl with you, that damn center console gets in the way of things!!! Whereas if I had a column shifter... I could put the arm rest up, and pull them closer and even have em sit in the middle, next to the driver. Which is why column shifters are superior.

This is why I wish I could find a mint condition Gen4.5 Taurus Wagon SEL with column shifter... Then there'd be a ton of room in the back too

I have a column shifter with a console.

That's why I bought a truck with a bed.

The police package did not have a center console.

Giggity.

+1. Sounds like a great mod to do, so long as those console and shifter parts you got are all still usable. And you should also paint the shifter surround to match the Platinum Edition ICP bezel. OEM-looking style FTW! I would hate to give up a bench seat, personally, but it's really a great look with those Gen 3 SHO buckets you put in. That will look :****: !!

This from the guy who gave me crap for not having a floor-shifter like in his Sport Edition. Did I not tell you that there is a reason to have the three-across bench? :ky:

This weekend, remember why I was so tired on Monday?

And, I have to give you crap... I mean come on, you have an SEL with working OAT and Compass. I am jealous of those, so I have to make you feel jealous of the floor shifter in my Taurus SE when really, I am jealous of the column shift with gen 2 shifter, Compass, and OAT. Though, your SEL with column shifter lacks the control of Traction Control off switch, side airbags, factory spoiler, and windveil blue
