What tool will i need to replace the front brake pads on my 2005 taurus
at 90,000 miles i guess it's time to do them

Just make sure you have every size. Its a pretty straight forward setup. I would however, make sure to get very good pads. You can cheap on rotors in my experience, but a cheap pad can squeal, chatter, and cause other problems, like warped rotors. I run ceramic pads on mine.

i got the bendix semi matalic pads and bought centric slotted and drilled rotors..so i should be good...............i hope

Godfather, on my 99, the first thing i do is loosen the cap on the master cylinder reservoir and after removing a wheel(s), place a 5-6 in. c-clamp on the old outer pad and inside the caliper on a flat spot at the top and compress the piston as much as possible. On the 99, the caliper slide pin cap bolts are 12mm (all you need to remove for pad change only). After removing the outer pad, i use the old inner pad and c-clamp to fully compress the piston. Since youre changing out the rotors, the caliper mounting bracket needs to come off (15mm). There may be a flimsy star lock washer on one of the lugs holding the rotor on (placed there at the factory). Just pry it off with a screwdriver and/or pliers and discard. I would spray the backs of all 4 pads with crc or permatex anti-squeal compound and let it tack-up for 10-15 mins. prior installation. Also, i would pull all 4 slide pins, clean them off with a rag and wire brush and slather them with anti-seize before reinserting them. If you ever use any autozone lifetime warr. pads, theyre the only ones who will replace for free due to wear-out, so save the box and old pads. Good luck.

P.S.2: After retightening the mc cap, if brake fluid level appears to be too full or low, pump the brake pedal a few times and recheck before adding or removing.

P.S.3: When you have the caliper off (loose), dont let it dangle by the rubber brake hose. You can safely suspend it with a bungee cord, tarp strap or piece of wire from the coil spring or strut. If im not removing rotors, i carefully balance it on top. Seriously, after doing a few brake jobs, it takes longer to r&r the wheels than the entire process.
