Hi Guys,

I just returned from a 450 miles trip over the weekend, and now noticed some sound when turning the steering towards left, there is no noise when I turn it towards right.

Sound is like rubbing the fingers on a baloon, seems to be coming from the drivers side front wheel.

What should be causing this, any clue ?

1. Ball Joints ?
2. Front Spring ?

Abi

It could be a number of things: have somone turn the steering wheel while you listen to the suspension to try and locate the noise. It could be: greese leaked out of the balljoint, strut bearing, strut plate, greese leaked out of the tie rod end, or the sway bar endlink. Does it make the noise if you bounce the car up and down?

I guess I identified the sound, its like rubbing the fingers on a baloon.
I can hear it from the drivers seat, with the window open, in the parking lot.
Something happened all of a sudden, as the sound was not there 2 days back.

Spray some lithium grease on the boot at the base of the steering column near the brake pedal. If that doesn't fix it, then look at the suspension parts.

Thanks Qwertz!!
Is the steering boot inside the cabin, near the brake pedal ?

The sound is of a dry joint(no greese). Similar to the sound of door hinges, when they are dry(no greese).
Same sound produced by rubbing the fingers on a baloon.

Yes it's inside the car near the brake pedal.

I checked, it was not the steering boot.

I got it checked from MIDAS, they told me that the sound is coming from "seat-bearing of strut". So, the "Strut Mount" needs to be fixed.

He suggested me to change the Struts and Stabalizer links at $630.

The bull just have 66K miles.

How urgent is this repair, what if I dont do it for another year ?
Can I live with it.

He told me that it will get louder with time, and it will cause the un-even tire wear, is that true ?
The alignment is right, and the car goes straight.

It all started after I hit a pot-hole.

Here is the picture of the strut and the strut bearing.
Its at the top of the strut.
Mechanic says that the plate of the strut bearing is making noise.

$630.00 seems steep for JUST endlinks and struts. Get quotes from other places.
