I think you're going to get a split consensus on this one.

I have the Scosche kit in my '02 and it's decent; everything works and it doesn't look terribly cheap if you're not looking for something to complain about (and most like nobody but you will be looking to criticize your kit).

Lots of people like the Metra kit better, though.

I did a lot of searching and I think you will generally find the Scosche kit a bit cheaper than the Metra. I will say that if you can't find the Scosche on eBay (and you may not, they're hard to come by for the Gen4 if you don't want to wait for a while), then I would recommend ordering through Crutchfield, just because I don't think you'll find it cheaper than $60 and we know Crutchfield has excellent service. And, if by chance you decide to order a head unit from them, they will only charge $40 for the Scosche kit.

I've had horrible luck with Scosche kits. The one on my focus started going bad in about a year after I installed it. My ex-gf's protege has gone through 3 in about 4 months. The my taurus went through 2 in about 3 weeks. IMO, they look cheap and they're built cheap. Though some other ppl seem to have better luck with them than me.

I dumped the Schosche in my Taurus for a Metra, and I'm still on the first one For the taurus, I think they look better and sturdier than the Schosche.

Could you explain going through 2 in about three weeks? What is happening to them?

I haven't put one in my GenIV but I put one in my GenIII about 6 or 7 months ago and no problems.

Thanks

Mike

IDK that you're going to be able to do anything with the radio unfortunatly. In 2004, Ford put a Passenger AirBag Off Indicator on the opposite side of your defrost button. They still have it in 2005 vehicles. Unless Brad or someone has figured out a way around that, you may potentially cause issues with your passenger airbag.

Thats my dilemma. I have an '05 SE w/the manual climate controls but the wife likes the idea of a working airbag on her side. The nerve! I'm in the process of shopping for an aftermarket speakers/amp set up but will have to go without the aftermarket HU.

Since it looks like if us '04-'05 owners want a functioning passenger side airbag we have to keep the stock HU is there any advantage to wiring up the amp using a line out converter instead of going the line level/speaker level route?

It depends. If you wanna use a good line level converter, then it will sound better. If you are going to use a garbage Best Buy LOC then no.

I was considering the Dave Navone LOC. If I go that route, how do I connect it all up? I'd be using a four channel amp to power all four speakers.

Yeah that should sound better than the speaker level inputs. You can usually get 2 chan or 4 chan LOCs. I dunno if that one comes in 4 channel, if it only comes in 2 you will need to get two of them. You could do it with one and then just get an RCA splitter but you will lose fader capability.
