Ok bought my car with the DEI remote start system on it and the only way it will work is if you leave a key in the ignition, is there a way to make it work without leaving the key in? I have the factory permiter alarm and factory chip in the key or something

I've heard about this before. I'm not totally certain, but with the Ford PATS security system, now get this, the key need to be within a few inches of the key slot. Try the remote start with the key near the ignition swith but not in the slot. If that works, you may have to have a new PATS key made then, taped to your steering colum.
Sounds funny, I know. My roommates a Ford Tech in Philly. I'll check with him and get back to you.

They sell modules to bypass the factory system for remote start. Check your manufacturer's website for accessories and you should find one.
*edit* I mean check the manufacturer of your alarm... just to clear up any confusion. They should have something. |

Do you know which module is in your car? Generally they are made to bypass the key so that they will start even without a pats key. So as long as the module is working properly and wired in correctly it should be working perfectly. Your best bet if you arent to great with electrical is just to take it to an electronics store that sells them. Either they will tell you how to fix it or you will pay them a bunch and it will work. But hey for all that money you can have the convenience of your car starting without even having to wait for the game to end. But generally speaking that is what all the DEI remote starters are made to do, piggy back your car alarm for the signal, and then the bypass is built in.

The PATS will refuse to start a car under any circumstances unless the key is "near" the ignition. This includes regular copied keys and remote starters. A friend of my made a copy of my key, not realizing the PATS. When testing the key, the car would not start and the THEFT light would flash real fast. It does, however, make a good back up to get into the car.
What you need is a remote start tranponder bypass. It just so happens that there is some on EBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=48611 EDIT: Here's the DEI 555F (as desrcibed below) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5702288160&rd=1 Derek

the dei parts number is 555U or if you have 2 keys for the car you can use a 555f or if your realy good, and have a 98+ you can use a 555p. Id reccomend the 555u ias it is the easiest and most reliable.
