I took my 93 Taurus GL Wagon to a friend's shop this morning for new brakes. I was in the car waiting for him to arrive. I turned the key so I could open the windows and have the radio on. Upon turning the key, I heard a series of about 5-10 beeps coming from the radio area. The car is 100% original with OEM speakers and cassette radio. I was using the spare key I was giving the shop. It's a stock key with the black end that says Ford on it. The car has no remotes. What could these beeps have been?
I've never encountered that myself, but I think the airbag module (located in that general area) can make beeping sounds for certain errors. Are there any SRS issues (even a burned out dashboard light)?
Next time it happens, if the bag hasn't already exploded, count the flashes and note any pauses between flashes. Your car maybe flashing a trouble code. Let us know what you come up with.
That seems to be a catch-all code, indicating electrical connector fault/failure for any of the several airbags located in the cabin; or a possible failure in one of the jello boxes that set the airbags off in event of collision (real or perceived).
I googled 1993 Ford airbag code 24 and came up with this, amongst many other possibilities. I suggest taking your car to a good automotive electrical shop or a Ford dealer to have the troubleshooting done. Given your earlier posts, frankly, I think for your own safety that this is one job you shouldn't be tackling on your own.
Five buzzes, pause, and five buzzes, repeat is the audio warning for an airbag issue.
My sons' does five buzzes, and it's flashing a code 23. My best Internet research ( including this forum) indicates that it's the driver side foot well "safer" module that is causing the issue.
The buzzer you heard should be coming from inside the passenger side footwell area on the right (probably a blue box) once you deal with your code 24 issue, you may still have a new pending airbag diagnostic code to deal with.
I believe an OBD scanner can show all the codes present
On my 91 I had an airbag code that indicated a crash sensor was bad. Replacing the sensor did not fix it though. I ended up figuring out the module was bad that was behind the glovebox. I think there was an issue with leaking capacitors in the module. I got super lucky and found a car in the junkyard that had a reman one in that fixed the issue. Maybe that might help you.
