Power Antenna Replacement (99 Wagon)

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to swap the antenna on my mother's 99 SE Wagon. Her antenna is bent badly, and is stuck up.

I have another Taurus that I can pull a known working motor and antenna out of...it's also a 99 SE Wagon. I used needle nose pliers to loosen the nut with the four notches on the exterior of the car, and I removed a few 10 and 11 mm bolts that seem to hold the assembly in (in the trunk), and also unplugged everything. The problem is, it's behind this sheet of metal that looks like it's welded in, and I don't see a way to get the assembly out from behind it.

I thought about just replacing the mast (her motor works), but even after removing the nut on the outside, I don't see a way to get the old one out. It just pulls to its stop.

Any suggestions here? I imagine it's something simple that I'm missing.

Thanks in advance!

You will have to remove the radio control module next to the antennia to give you the clearance you need. It will have plenty of room after you snip off the stuck up mast.
