UPDATED: June - 11th - 2009
Let me start off by saying that, Yes I do have the wiring manual for my Model Year. They are going for a great price on eBay. And yes I did read jmoschetti45 posting http://taurusclub.com/forum/index.php?s=&a...st&p=635229 No Junk Yards in my area. Hello. Instead of hijacking Ethan's Thread. http://taurusclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=63137 I started my own. I am trying to install the hardwired keypad in my 2003 Taurus SES. My car is NOT already prewired. So I am going to need to do one of two things. 1.Obtain a door/GEM wiring harness from a higher trim level Taurus or Sable 2.Obtain the PINS for the respective Harnesses (harnii as it were) and add-on to the existing connectors. I am going for option 2. Seems like it will cost less and might be easier to obtain. This will involve adding the following Circuits # 123 – Keypad Common # 122 – Keypad Common # 78 – Keypad Common #.57 – Keypad Ground Bus – Tap Existing ground # 57 – Ground illumination Bulb – Tap Existing ground # 66 – Illumination Hot side 1.The GEM connector (C201 c) is a 26 Pin Connector. This connector SEEMS to mimic the 14, 16, 18, or 20 pin connector on the back modern Ford Stereos.. Sourcing Pins for may be the easiest since pigtails are available everywhere. I would ask for the pins for the Reverse Harness. 2.The Door Jamb Connector is a 56 pin connector. I have a pin-out diagram, so I know where the pins will go. But I will need to source them. <strike>I have no idea what they even look like.</strike> They look like Pins from the keypad and mirror connectors. The larger pins are TBD. 3.I will also need to source the pins for the key pad connector. This connector and variants is/are also found in this and other ford vehicles. This connector is also used for rear wiper motor, trailer jumper, key less entry, tailgate, fuel pump sending, lift gate. I have high hopes for creating this connector, much like the GEM connector. Only I will to need find the housing for this connector . 1.Pins for the GEM are <strike>TBD</strike>. Not avaiable over ther counter. Go to a Salavage yard. I have left overs. 2.Pins for the Door Jamb are <strike>TBD</strike>. 2 Kinds. Thick and Thin. >2a. Thin pins are compatible with the keypad and the Side mirror harnesses (harnii) >2b. Thick pins are TBD. 3.Pins for the Keypad switch are to be verified. What I have is this >3a.E8EB-14488-UA – Female Terminal . Found in door harness >3b.E8EB-14461-AA – Male Pin. Found in keypad harness. >3c.Described as Ford Wedgelock Pin Type >3d.This is listed as having a .100 diameter > This is the connector for the Generic Electonic Module The 26 Pin Connector Pin Removed This is the 20 Pin Stereo Connector - See the resemblance I odered a generic 3rd party connector and it didn't work. Perhaps OEM might have. This is the Door Jam Connector. I could't find a better pic on the interwebs. <strike>I Don't know how to get the connector apart </strike> See My guide Called Adding Circuits to Door Jamb This is a pic of the Keypad assembly connector. My question is, does anyone know where to get the connector pins, or where to look? The pins are available at most NAPA. From other Keypads. harnii, Explorer Trailer wiring. <strike> I have the diagram and will be posting them in a guide when I am done with this project. </strike> This has BECOME the guide. Connector Pins (terminals) defined here - They were a help, but I could use more http://www.fmsiinc.com/terminals4.htm http://www.rowand.net/Shop/Tech/Automotive...lConnectors.htm

Here are the diagrams I promised .
Also I have ordered a REVERSE explorer harness. The side that Mates with the stereo, not the main harness. My Plan is to remove a few pins from this, an place them in my GEM harness. This will facilitate testing. When I know if I get a good connection, I will take the removed pins to a ford dealer, though them on the counter and ask for a bag full. The next step will be getting the Green 8 pin pigtail for the keypad, and learning what the pins for the door jamb connector are.

This is a Pin-out Diagram of the GEM.
I have highlighted where I will need to add the 4 pins for the key pad Also I got the Reverse stereo harness for a '98 explore and up. And the pins from it don't fit in the GEM connector 2 possible reasons. The spec for that connector does use different pins. Or the 3rd party that made the connector had to make changes so as not to step on any of fords patents if they have any. Not sure yet. Connector purchased was American International FWH-597 Additional, I contacted a Ford dealer Parts/Service about obtaining Pins for my GEM and Door Connector. They have no listing of repair connectors pins for these harnii. . They did how however suggest that they can be obtained from a Junk Yard. Again no U-pick-types around here. Also, NAPA auto may have them. So I will try that route. Seeing if Napa Auto will have the Pins to my GEM connector.

At this stage of the game, I am coming up short trying to prove the concept of adding a keypad to a gen 4. I would gladly pay for any connectors + shipping. Right now, I don't know what to ask for. I feel that once I can hand them a part and say give me this!, I need some of these. That is a start. I need more then that to be complete. Also the keypad connector. that will add some complication. Yes yes, I need at least 4 connector pins for the GEM, and 8 pins 4M/4F, for the door Jamb. Plus, I don't know how to disconnect the jamb harness. Firespirit has tried to help, but I can't get it to come apart. IT would probably be best to get a few extra to practice crimping them with.I also need 6 Female pins for the Keypad. This will finish off the door harness to make it "GEN IV KEYPAD READY" Also. I need the connector hosing for the keypad. Plus. I am going to refit a 96 Keypad for my 03 which has a slight different schematic. I will need to create an intermediate harness. to convert it. That would need 8 pins that mate with the keypad and 6 pins that mate with the main harness. Plus the connector housings them selves. This is my complete Shopping list. 14Female Pins for WPT-737 6Male Pins For WPT-257 2 connector housings WPT-737 1 connector housings WPT-257 6Pins for the Door side of jamb 6pins for the body side of jamb 4 female pins for the GEM

If I lived up near you, I'd let you take the door apart on my SEL and check things out.
You know...(maybe you already did this) but do you have any pull a part/ junkyard places that will let you scounge the junkyard for parts? Could be worth checking out what cars in the junkyard use. There's a 97 LX at my local pick n pull with the door panel already off. Keypad in the door and all...do you want me to grab anything from it (has the flat keypad like a 96).

If you loosen the bolt in the connector, it comes apart. Long winded bolt though.
I'll see what I can come up with at the yard. BTW: 257 and 757 look pretty damn close to power mirror connectors

I really wish there were some self-serve junk yards around here. All that I found are counter based. This is going to be a great write when we are all though. Here is what I think I know. based on my wring diagram and my service manual. 96 kepad aside. Keypad in handle. Has some blocking diodes. Not sure why ford E/Es redisigned it, but all they did was eliminate 2 wires from the schematic. Perhaps there was copper shortage duing 2000 :- ). By anyway. that connects to a 6 PIN/8 Cavity Connector. WPT-257. That mates with WPT 737. Then the 2 grounds are picked up inside the door harness. The 4 remaining wires pass though the door jamb harness. Then connect into the GEM. Here's more diagrams. Not going to bother to digitize the Jamb connector. Pretty Simple there. Also. Google for Ford Keypad connecotor. This thread it the first result!!

[In best Bruce lee-Roy voice available ] Ahh haa, young grasshopper, you have not the benefit of starring at these diagrams for hours and hours as have I. Notice Here circled in Red w/ crappy paint program. the keys, they are a different. Hha! [/In best Bruce lee-Roy voice available ] The pins may match up. I didn't think about removing the pins from the mirror harness when I had the door trim panel off. ![]() Update: The pins from the Outside mirror connector ARE interchangeable with this connector. Also the same as the smaller pins in the door jamb.
