2002 Taurus - Airbag Code 42

My airbag light is on. The light flashes 4 times, then a pause and then flashes 2 times, given airbag code 42. Does this mean the sensor is finished and has to be changed or does it mean something eles. If it is the senser which one is it and where is it on the car. Please help.

Where is that sensor located on the 2002 Taurus?

Is the primary one the one right behind the grille, under the hood latch? Look there, and check the connections, especially the grounds.

I think it's near the driver side fender well. You'll have to pull off the front bumper to get to it. I tried to reach it, but couldn't get to it with just the grill off. I have the exact same code flashing in my 03, but I'm not too worried right now because I'm pretty sure it's still covered by warranty. 6 year powertrain, 6 year safety system iirc.

And as for if it's fried...probably, but it could also be dirty. You'll have to pull it off and check to be sure. And don't forget to remove the battery ground and let it discharge for 5-10 mins.
