I'm looking for some ideas for my 98 Taurus Center Console. Basically, I hate the fact that in order for me to use the factory ash tray (which I keep pennies in
) I have to move everything from the upper cup holder and such in order to actually get to the ash tray. Any ideas? If I can replace the Center console with an updated version, so be it. I'm all about functionality.

Is it a floor shift or column shifter? And are you referring to the flip/fold console?
If column shifter you can always find one of these. They were in 98s- early build 01s from what I've seen.

It's a column shifter (unfortunately). You say 98-01's for the console you posted? Might be making a trip to the good ole' Junk Yard.
This is my current console. Last edited by MikeyB08; 11-24-2012 at 07:44 PM. |

Yep you can find those in many 1998/99 LXs and low spec'd SE's. Also I have seen them in 2000 early build Gen 4s ... Usually fleet spec'd Taurus SE's.
There is a closer look.

You can also take a floor shift console ( a direct bolt in BTW ) an really change the look inside your car. I did that with my wagon and in th opening for the shifter I filled it with fiberglass and mounted gauges for a sporty look. Its not that hard to do and there are alot of consoles in the junk yards.

I replaced my flip-fold with one of those. Best decision I ever made.(well maybe not, but it was close...). Easy to change, too just 4 bolts. PM me if you need info on how to change, to get the J/Y one out, there are 2 bolts on either side, just look between seat and console.

This isnt the best photo of the console, but it gives you an idea of what I did with mine. Just after this photo was taken, I changed the gauges out to white face autometer guages to match the dash.
