I started hearing metal rattle directly from behind the instrument cluster when car is driving on less than perfect pavement. What could it be? Is it easy to have access behind the instrument cluster?

If you have a floor shift car you can pull the black plastic bezel out and cluster in 15 minutes.
No idea on noise. I say bang side of hand balled up on top of dash to see if noise quiets down JK. may be defrost grill clip rattling?

I have a weird rattling sound behind my dash too. It's very faint but its constantly rattling. I have no idea what it could be though.

John, that was freaking hilarious. I haven't seen that in forever. I forgot what happened!
NICK - It does not take 15 minutes if you have never done it before. Once you've done it once, THEN it takes 15 minutes. Rattling noises for me always end up being something in my cup holder or below the ashtray where change and stuff goes. I must admit I have resorted to hitting the dashboard when it rattles too......

Floor shift Tauruses 96-99 really do take 15 minutes tops if that. Its cake compared to a 4th Gen or 3rd gen Column shift.

Oh, I was thinking 4th gen floor shift. Mine took me like an hour the first time I did it (got stuck on the radio thats why). About 15 minutes the second time haha.
fct, I would pull the cluster out if you have a floor shift. Doesn't take long like Nick implied. See whats loose back there. Could be a bulb popped out or something weird like that, you never know.

Sometimes object fall down defrost vent and can rattle forever if not found~~ Spare change anyone~~
Can you lay down and look up behind the dash. I would get a good light and check for anything loose. When I pulled my dash I pulled the seats first and had lots of room to play with. A good project when you have an extra vehicle to chase parts with~~ |
