I thought he hit something and broke one

Some ecomodding makes sense...I can understand (safe) aerodynamic mods, but some of it's just plain ridiculous. I do have to say that some of the aero mods I've seen actually look pretty cool - I was surprised with what some people came up with.

The people with the stupid hypermiling driving techniques do make me want a Suburban with a Chevy 502 crate motor though Driving smart to save gas = win. Driving stupid to save gas = fail.

Lol. Yeah. It's an ecomodder thing.

Michigan Vehicle Code is pretty loose on the whole mirror thing:
Quote:
...all motor vehicles shall be equipped with an outside rearview mirror on the driver's side which shall be positioned to give the driver a rearviewing angle from the driver's side of the vehicle...[/b]
I actually got 3-4 mpg better after I took them off. Then I bought a smaller mirror to mount on the door. I also have convex mirrors mounted on the tweeters, so it is till just as safe, you just need to know where the mirrors are pointing. I can imagine if someone else tried to drive my car, they might have a hard time. I also have a convex mirror mounted above the rear view mirror.

I still haven't taken pics of the mirrors so I can't show you the view :-\

also, I made some black panels that go over the mounting area so it looks nice, it's not just a huge empty pocket on the side of my door.

So could the mirror have been the reason you boo-boo'd your car against the basketball hoop?

no... the mirrors were not the cause of hitting the basketball hoop. The hoop was in front of me and I didn't cut the corner soon enough. I pull down my driveway, then do a 3-point turn at the end. I simply turned too late and hit the pole.

Here are pictures of the mirrors:
