Default Exhaust power gain?

If one would add a Borla, Corsa exhaust or any other brand, what type of Horsepower / Torque gains are we talking about? How about just removing the 3rd cat & resonator and installing the X-Pipe? I didn't see a thread specific to this and figured I would ask.

i've tried to look it up and there wasnt really and specifics on gains, but as with most exhaust upgrades you'll probably gain a little top end because of the higher flow....just my opinion.

I've heard a lot of stories about this. (I had a Magnaflow Cat-Back on my 06 Fusion.) I really don't think a cat back adds any noticeable HP. It may sound better to some. And it looks cool from the back. Exhaust still has to flow through the tightest spot on your system. Could be the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, etc. In the old days we used to pull the cat and shove in what they called a test tube. That maybe helped a little.

HP/torque gains? Minimal at best. But it sounds cool!

Just doing the exhaust might give you an increase of a couple of points. Now if you have plans for more performance mods, upgrading the exhaust may be a must. I went Borla Turbo. Removed third cat and resonator and ran 2.5" straight pipe. I am a big Borla fan over the cheaper brands. If you are just going for a new muffler, you will mostly just be gaining a little more rumble sound. Be mindful of emissions testing in your area. Some mods can greatly impact your test results.

Tony, I have been following this area kinda closely and from what I've been able to glean from other forums, is that none of the aftermarket systems are adding much in the HP and torque category. Mostly these systems improve exhaust sound, and a slight increase in flow, but apparently the new engine has some pretty serious bends as it exits the engine compartment. Also, if you see pictures of the heads on the Ecoboost, the exhaust ports are amazingly small, only slightly larger then a US quarter. I know Livernois Motorsports is working on a better flowing head, but for now it is still in the works. IMHO so far the aftermarket exhausts are not a big performance improvement, from my viewpoint, not worth the expense, unless you are going with a custom designed complete exhaust...I know that bdp has something in the works.

I had a look at those pictures a few weeks ago, thats why I was wondering if an exhaust really helps or not, I thought about just installing the X pipe and removing the 3rd cat & resonator, I was going to have it made where I can unbolt it anytime and reinstall my original with ease just incase I have to take it back to the dealer. I was really looking for more power than anything, I would like to keep it quiet and retain my sleeper status and a super comfty vacation car without exhaust drone. I am a little nervous about changing heads on this car because I am pretty sure it will void my warranty... My file folder on this car is already really thick with paperwork from warranty issues and TSB's on this car so I am very choosy on what I do to it.
