Default No more 2001 Sable

She will be towed away after nearly 11years of great service and style. 133k miles, only major issue that was a constant even at new delivery was the air conditioning. Every year there was a problem. Other than that, the trans was the demise. IF we decided to fix that, we still had emission issue to resolve before Feb and tie rods needed to be replaced so the NEW tires that I just put on could be aligned. Those are small potatoes I know, but the door were rusting on bottom as was the right quarter. She did still have plenty of giddy-up and go!!

I will still hang around for ideas (if any) on our 04 Freestar. I hope to get at least 2 more years out of that.

Awwwww. At 133,000 is kind of young to retire her.

I agree with byrondumas. If I had gotten rid of every car I've owned when the transmission or A/C went out, I would have owned twice as many cars as I have at a minimum!

I was told by a reputable shop recently that a rebuilt transmission for these cars is only about $1500. I was floored by that, it's half or less compared to transmission replacements on my other cars. That's excepting my '79 Honda - but hardly comparable, the thing only had 60 or 70 something HP and similar torque.

But still, each owner has differing levels of acceptable repairs before getting rid of a car, and there are always other reasons that go beyond simple economics. Sometimes it's just time for a change. 11 years is quite a good run, regardless of the miles.

Good luck with the Freestar until something else comes around!

Actually...... we sold the car to my brothers brother in law who is a mechanic. He is going to fix her up and has the know how to do it inexpensively. So, it's really not out of commission just yet. After those 3 issues get taken care of, I am sure it will go alot longer.
