No, its not. I am on the other hand trying to prevent s2k from throwing money away. The point being, I am beginning to doubt said installer for thinking an engine so much different would be just fine.....and without a tune, that is about as ignorant as you can get....

He can do what he wishes, as we aren't making him do anything, its ultimately his choice, we can just give advice

Dude, it won't be mean if the swap is ****ed up, or you don't get it tuned.

You need to get this car tuned RIGHT away!

Realize that the different in displacement is far different, and the combustion chambers are now totally different as well. You'd put the SVT heads on the 3L engine. The 3L engine has larger cylinder bores, and I think a longer stroke, hence, timing is going to be different. Additionally, the 2.5L heads have smaller combustion chambers, as well as different cam profiles, with more lift and longer duration.

Neither tune (2.5L SVT or 3.0L) will be right for this engine.

YOU NEED TO GET IT TUNED BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT!

Otherwise, you're going to end up running WAY lean.

JR

We're not giving you a hard time we just don't want to see this thing blow up when you floor it and it pings like crazy and explodes or runs lean and melts a valve during a WOT run. You can't just pop a bigger engine in a car and have everything be a-ok. That's JUST like adding a turbo to a non turbo car and saying it'll be fine.

Unless this guy has done something like this before and it's still running good with no tune then I'm thinking this guy just wants your money and once it's out of the shop he can say "go screw, you're the one that wanted a Taurus engine in a Contour".

the guy who is doing the swap said the tune is not necessary.... so im not doing one, is it really going to screw the engine up?

and i will not be doing any clutch drops in this car till i save up the money for a torsen diff.

You're ****ed.... or at least the installer is..... in the head.

The car will run lean, burn a valve or a top cylinder ring. Your installer is going to cut corners, no wonder it's so cheap.

Seriously, Bob, you are asking for it if you don't get the car tuned.

Yes, you can drive around without the tune, but sooner or later you are going to have issues.

I'm trying to save the guy a few dimes. He's going to spend $1100 on the swap and in 6 months he'll be looking for another engine if he follows the installers advice.

Tell Greg he's an idiot if he believes you'll never need a tune. You can drive the car home, but you shouldn't drive it for very long.

If your going to have some random guy do a swap for you, do some research. The first big no no here is why is this guy that is such a expert on doing these swaps still driving around with a 2.5 in his? And why is he buying a prebuilt 2.5/3.0 hybrid from someone else. And asking how to tune his own car and what he would need to do it.

I agree. S2knott if you haven't learned anything from being here for the last year or two about engine swaps and the tuning that go with them, I don't think you should tinker with your car...

It is nice to see you actually doing some mechanical work, and not the random exhaust, muffler and air filter questions. But like we all told you before when you had your air box open, if you are gonna mod, mod it right. You gain nothing by doing it on the cheap. Start looking at getting it tuned now, and save the money, drive your Taurus in the mean time even if you have to beat your sister for it. Don't throw away your cash into an engine swap only to ruin it because some dude didn't know what he was talkin about.

And to whoever it was that said just let him spend his money how he wants to. This community helps eachother out usually. We are not telling this guy how to spend his money, but watching his back and letting him know what he should be doing to protect the investment...
